Public Relations can be an effective tool in conveying a message, creating brand awareness or controlling negative publicity – as long as the right agency is managing the project. With more than 20 years combined experience, MWPR, Inc. is that firm. MWPR has experienced great success and growth since opening its doors in February 2004. MWPR stays in constant demand for their skilled approach to brand protection and awareness and perfected art of media training. The over 14-year-old firm has represented and managed the brands of actors, authors, athletes, associations, foundations, faith-based organizations and more.
Always seeking opportunities to grow in size, resources, services and experience, MWPR has recently joined up with ArtistDNA, to strategically expand their specialized services within a more diverse marketplace. MWPR continues to remain committed to its overall mission, “to offer the capabilities and expertise of a large full-service firm, with the direct attention only a small boutique can deliver.”
An expert crisis media guru, Monica G. Wood is the owner and lead PR Strategist of MWPR, Inc.; a full- service concierge firm offering comprehensive expertise in crisis management, strategic communications, brand protection and social media strategy. With over 20 years of professional experience, Wood’s extensive PR knowledge and keen sensibility to public opinion has made her a highly sought-out specialist to a host of popular personalities, brands, and organizations.
Before launching her firm in 2004, Wood worked for Golin an international public relations firm where she co-managed the McDonald’s account – one of GH’s largest and longest tenured Corporate Consumer clients as account group supervisor. From working as marketing manager for a DC mixed-use development property, to being the producer and voice of The Baltimore AFRO-American Newspaper’s radio show “First Edition”, to helping to keep the “Golden Arches” polished, to being the “go to” professional on national media crises, Wood has worn many hats, and they all have fit her well.
Over the years, Wood has served as a crisis PR expert liaison to a host of local and national news media. Trusted for her insight and experience, she often provides on-camera correspondence for crisis-related matters. Her proven strategies have paved the way for a successful history of perceptive advising. A published author, Wood contributed a feature piece in the PR News’ Crisis Management Guidebook, Vol 6. She has also contributed chapters to other books focused on PR and communications.
A third generation graduate of Morgan State University, Wood holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech. In May 2015, Wood obtained a Master of Arts in Christian Practice from Duke University, School of Divinity. She formerly served on the board of The Harvest Center of Charlotte, and is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the Charlotte Area Association of Black Journalists.
